Stirling (Sruighlea around Gaelic) is one of 32 unitary council regions around Scotland with a people of astir 85,000. It covers virtually all of the county of Stirlingshire (except Falkirk) and a South-american part of Perthshire. A administrative centre of the area is the city of Stirling itself. A vicinity borders Clackmannanshire (to the east), Falkirk (to the south east), Perth and Kinross (to the northerly & north east), Argyll and Bute (to the northerly & north west), & each East and West Dunbartonshire, both to Stirling's southwest.
A majority of the people of the area is located in its sou'-east corner, in the city of Stirling & in the encompassing lowland communities: Dunblane and Bridge of Allan to the north, Bannockburn to a immediate south, & the 3 previous coal mining communities of Cowie, Fallin, & Plean (known together when "The Eastern Villages"). A leftover 30 percent of the area's people is sparsely distributed through a rural expanse of the vicinity. A southern half of this rural region is a flat american flood plain of the River Forth, bounded on the south per Touch Hills and the Campsie Fells. Northerly of a vale lie the Trossachs mountains, & a northern half of the area is typically mountainous and highland in character.
